Kereang reader profile

this is the reader profile of kerrang magazine it shows that the average audience is male but 40 percent is female this means that to target the audience groups the magazine uses basic colours that do not make either reader group alienated to the colour differences, the reader profile shows that the average age for kerrang is 19, the target audience is a media savvy group, who are active consumers of media, fashion, and computer games. the adult circulation of kerrang is 85377, showing that even though the majority of readers are teens adults still buy it, this is most probably because they buy it for their kids. the magazine targets Young teens this means that the magazine cannot be expensive, because young readers will not have much money. the magazine would advertise about technology because this is what the target audience is in to.
because the magazines readers enjoy fashion it is important to find out what fashion the reader is interested in, this means that they have to find out what styles are up to date meaning that they need information as to what the readers are wearing otherwise they are not going to read something which they are not going to enjoy i.e. posting about the latest pop clothes in kerrang who's target audience are not into that type of thing.
the reader profile also shows what language to use with the reader because there is no point in talking in text speak to readers who do not enjoy text speak this is also evident in slang, meaning that if the magazine wants to talk to it's target audience it will use the correct terminology that the readers can understand and so that it is not insulting or diminutive to the reader.
The KERRANG! Reader
this shows the audience majority of readers are male but it is a close difference in percentages just 8 percent difference, this shows the group who like rock and the styles of kerrang are closely related together.
the age groups of readers in in the majorities of 15-24 and a smaller percentage in 25-34 this shows that the audience to target a music magazine with would be teenagers becausee they are closest related to the music in which they listen to not to mention most artists in that genre will be that age group also.

social class
social class system
I am probably going to target lower class and working class because that is where most if not all of the youth are located and since the majority of music magazines are purchased by the youth then it is wise to target them because there is no point in targeting the upper classes who probably don't even read music magazines.

demographics
demographics - A demographic or demographic profile is a term used in marketing and broadcasting, to describe a demographic grouping or a market segment. This typically involves age bands (as teenagers do not wish to purchase denture fixant), social classbands (as the rich may want different products than middle and lower classes and may be willing to pay more) and gender (partially because different physical attributes require different hygiene and clothing products, and partially because of the male/female mindsets). The Genre I'm Covering.
the metal genre has very well performed music, and has more meaningful lyrics than pop because the majority of the time the artists themselves have wrote their own music.
the reason for choosing this genre is because metal, and rock are so influential towards other genres and so have an impact, this means that no matter what genre is covered there will always be metal and rock influences in it, this means that by covering these genres I can get to where the source of the influence comes from, rock and Screamo.
the screamo genre
Screamo is a sub genre of hardcore punk that predominantly evolved from emo, among other genres, in the early 1990s. This initially involved a more aggressive offshoot of emo music that developed in San Diego in 1991. Screamo essentially describes a particularly dissonant style of emo influenced by hardcore punk.
Screamo uses typical rock instrumentation, but is notable for its brief compositions, chaotic execution, and screaming vocals.
(Screaming is a vocal technique that is most popular in sub genres of heavy metal, and is also used in some genres of punk and industrial. While intensity, pitch, and characteristics vary from vocalist to vocalist, screamed vocals generally accompany heavy music, and are associated with more aggressive musical themes or styles.) While occasional screaming has been used for effect in heavy metal since the genre's dawn in the late 1960s (with singers such as Robert Plant, Ian Gillan and Rob Halford employing the technique frequently), screaming as a normal method of lyrical delivery first came to prominence in heavy metal as part of the thrash metal explosion of the 1980s.Thrash metal was influenced both by heavy metal and by hardcore punk, the latter of which often incorporated shouted or screamed vocals. The first instance of screaming used as a constant delivery of lyrics was Chuck Schuldiner of the band Death.

evaluation of front cover
Evaluation of Front cover
During the production of the final front cover I made
created multiple drafts of the front cover changing fonts and the background
images.
My magazine follows the conventions of placement of the
title and also the placement of pull quotes, this is to allow it to be easily
recognised and to show what is inside the magazine, it also creates a more
traditional look to the magazine. My magazine cover does not show the
conventions of multiple images detailing what is inside I decided not to do
this as it would have made the image too cluttered.
My magazine shows stereotypical college students and shows
them enjoying themselves inn a location that is not clear or focused on. The
magazine is targeting the age group of 16-18 due to the magazine been about
people in the age range and the fact that college is for 16-18 year olds
typically and so I fitted my image into this. My audience for the magazine is
young college attendees who will get the most from the magazine and the
magazine is designed to keep them informed about the college, although the
college magazine could appeal to people in college who do not attend but are
still in the correct age range.
To attract the target audience the magazine looks quite
plain and basic but still colourful and attractive to draw people in, this
helps to show people that the magazine is not targeting a particular genre and
is instead appealing to a wider target audience it does this by not giving away
much about its overall context and instead appealing to the masses. My magazine
contains a plug to appeal to people especially the target audience of students
to win a competition this is to draw them in to buying the magazine because
there is then a chance of winning something they would not otherwise get. The
image its self is placed in a way that
the models are wearing current styles to appeal to the new audience members and
also look more attractive, it also helps to make the magazine break down
barriers of age and social class because everything is simple and not high
priced, the price of the magazine its self is also reflected in this because it
is not something that is cheap but it is not overly expensive.
By creating multiple drafts it has become handy to show what
I have done correct and what I have done wrong it also helps me to pick out
selected styles and selected fonts it also allows me to evaluate how something
looks when compared to other products. The use of the drafts also helps me to
be able to use them as a starting point and not have to start completely from
scratch. I also kept the draft copies open on Photoshop so that if I wanted to
I could select good parts from one part and leave the bad parts this helped to
bring together the front cover a lot faster because it was already composed and
just had to be positioned cropped and edited.
When I used Photoshop I made sure to edit the image to make
it look richer and bolder, I also adjusted the contrast of the image to make it
look brighter and sharper as well as correcting any lighting mistakes of the
image.
